NWABSD will be in the top 10% of districts in Alaska based on graduation rates and student achievement." Northwest Arctic Borough School District "Educating Our Children to Lead Successful Lives" P.O. Box 51 • Kotzebue, Alaska, 99752 • Phone (907) 442-3472 • Fax (907) 442-2392 November 05, 2008 To whom it may concern: Northwest Arctic Borough School District (NWABSD) is taking an aggressive move in pursuing renewable energy via the "Renewable Energy Project" proposal for the Alaska Energy Authority. Recent surveys has shown that the NANA Region residents are supportive of renewable energy development and are willing to participate in bringing forth renewable energy projects. High energy costs are motivating NANA Region residents to look for new energy sources and identifying ways to harness these energy sources for their communities. NWABSD is committed to helping the Northwest Inupiat Housing Authority (NIHA) develop a comprehensive program to install solar water heaters on homes and other buildings in the NANA Region. Solar hot water systems on residential, commercial and public buildings have the potential to displace expensive heating fueL NRC will help develop these projects by providing services of Projects Manager Sonny Adams, and Jay Hermanson with NANA Pacific. NANA Pacific and other consultants will provide expertise in the development of the construction and business plan. NANA Pacific also plans on working with some of the NANA Strategic Energy Plan members. These participants include the Northwest Arctic Borough, Maniilaq Association and village councils in individual communities. Finally, NANA Pacific and WH Pacific, affiliates of NAN A Regional Corporation, will be providing support services to NIHA; such as project/construction management, technical and planning services, and procurement.
