RE: Grant Request- Solar Panels
To Whom It May Concern,
The Birch Creek Tribal Council and tribal management fully support this application to rile
Alaska Energy Authority's Renewable Energy Grant Program.
Birch Creek has been directly suffering the effects of the energy crisis and has very few
resources to offset it. Birch Creek has been rapidly depleting the little operating funds it does
have due solely to the high costs of having diesel and heating oil down into Birch Creek.
Birch Creek is very conservative with most tribal members living very simple, subsistence lives.
The majority of the home owner's burn wood in lieu of heating oil and almost all homes are
equipped with energy efficient lighting. The community has also downsized its community
generator and therefore does not use as much fuel, nor does not have the capacity of the previous
generator.
A small project such as this would have a large impact on the small community of Birch Creek.

Pete Williams,
Birch Creek
