As chair of the Delta Greely Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC),I want to take this
opportunity to express my support for you and the district's work in attempting to renovate the
Delta High School.
One of the responsibilities of the Delta Greely LEPC is planning for "all hazard"emergencies.
This planning ranges from the potential bus accident with multiple injuries or truck accident with
hazardous material release to earthquake preparedness or evacuation from spreading wildland
fire.All of which could create the need to house displaced individuals.
As you know,with the often long-term subzero temperatures,something as mundane as a power
outage can place people in a life threatening situation and,without the ability to heat their homes,
place them in the need of evacuation.
In the event of a disaster that required relocation of residents,we would rely on the Delta Greely
School District and Delta High School,along with the American Red Cross for a location to
house displaced residents.It would be our hope that any relocation would be temporary in nature.
The development of our emergency plans are essentially in their infancy when it comes to large
scale events,but it has been the intent to designate the Delta High School as an evacuation point.
The ability of the school to provide electricity,heat,and water in the event of an emergency could
possibly be a lifesaver for the community.
