As President of Partners for Progress in Delta,Inc,(PPD)a 501c3 non-profit promoting quality education and training
partnerships in Delta Junction,I am pleased to lend support to Delta/Greely School District as it applies for an Alaska
Energy Authority Grant to utilize bio-fuels for its facilities.
As representative of the district in our partnership,you know full well the importance of collaboration in planning and
carrying out career and technical education (CTE)leading to good paying jobs.You also know the challenge of building
and maintaining quality facilities for such training.PPD is already involved with the District in sharing facilities for
construction trades training,Tech-Prep course offerings,career academies,and much more.
We support this proposal because of the importance offinding economical and locally-appropriate ways of heating and
maintaining our CTE facilities.Successful award of this grant will not only enhance the comfort and safety of the
students and community members who use Delta/G~eely School district facilities but will in itself provide stimulus to
local and regional training and education about expanding use of bio-fuels in the region.I would hope that such facilities
and services could become a focal point for future training and workshops about alternative energy sources appropriate
to Interior Alaska.
We believe that--just as Partners for Progress in Delta,Inc.is a model for community educational partnerships--this
project can be a model for how a motivated and engaged community can harness local resources and talent to meet its
own needs.It can bring together local know-how,AEA technical expertise,small business entrepreneurial energy,and
state-of-the-art technologies to meet a pressing need in the Delta Junction community.
