RE: Letter of Support for USDA Grant Application
Dear Jerald:
Nome Eskimo Community is pleased to provide this letter of support for the Bering
Straits Native Corporations grant application to the United States Department of
Agriculture to develop a wind generation farm that will serve the Bering Strait region.
Nome Eskimo Community is the Tribal Governing entity that serves the community of
Nome. The high and rising energy costs in our community continue to have a major
impact on our operating budget. Being a service provider, when we must apply more of
our resources to operating costs it affects the level and quality of services that we provide
to the residents in our community.
Not only are we experiencing the impact on our services but are aware of how these high
costs affect the personal lives of those that we serve in our community. On a daily basis,
we work with families who struggle to meet their basic monthly living expenses, one of
the highest being their utility costs. The residents in our community cannot afford to
continue absorbing these exorbitant costs.
Wind energy is a clean and renewable source of energy as well as environmentally
friendly. We are pleased that the Bering Straits Native Corporation is taking the
measures to address this critical issue that is severely impacting our region. We fully
support their efforts.
Sincerely,
NOME ESKIMO COMMUNITY
