RESOLUTION OF THE CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU, ALASKA
Serial No. 2454
A Resolution Authorizing the Manager to Submit to the Alaska
Energy Authority an Application for a Grant for Partial
Funding for the Design and Construction of a Ground Source
Heat Pump System at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center.
WHEREAS, the City and Borough of Juneau is currently in the design phase for the
construction of the Dimond Park Aquatic Center; and
WHEREAS, the energy studies and life cycle cost analysis performed during
preliminary design phases demonstrated that significant operational savings could be
generated by use of a ground source heat pump system rather than conventional oil or
electric heat systems; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Energy Authority has advertised for Renewable Energy
Grant requests pursuant to House Bill 152 (Chapter 31 Session Laws of Alaska 2008);
and
WHEREAS, the City and Borough has submitted a grant request to the Rasmuson
Foundation for partial funding for the ground source heat pump system; and
WHEREAS, the Dimond Park Pool Task Force has recommended that the City and
Borough submit an application for an Alaska Energy Authority Renewable Energy
Grant for the balance of funding for the ground source heat pump system; and
WHEREAS, the Manager has prepared the grant application, which must be
submitted by October 8, 2008; and
WHEREAS, the grant application will request $1,450,000 to fund the balance of the
cost of a ground source heat pump system; and
WHEREAS, the Assembly is fully aware of the obligations and responsibilities that
will be incurred by the City and Borough upon acceptance of the grant.
Now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE CITY AND BOROUGH
OF JUNEAU, ALAsxA:
Section 1. That the Assembly hereby authorizes the Manager to submit an
application to the Alaska Energy Authority for a Renewable Energy Grant in the
amount of $1, 450, 000 to partially fund the design and construction of the ground source
heat pump system at the new Dimond Park Aquatic Center.
Section 2. That the Engineering Department is established as the agent for the
City and Borough for administration of this project.
Section 3. Effective Date. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon
adoption.
