R ESOLUTION OVK
A Resolution of the Organized Village of Kasaan,
WHEREAS, the Organized Village of Kasaan is a federally recognized Tribe
organized pursuant to the Indian Reorganization Act of June 18, 1934 (48
Stat. 984) and May 1, 1936 (49 Stat. 1250); and
WHEREAS, the Corporate Charter of the Organized Village of Kasaan
(Ratified October 15, 1939) states in its Purpose and Existence, “In order
to further the economic development of the Indians residing in the
neighborhood of Kasaan, Alaska, by conferring upon the Organized Village of
Kasaan corporate rights and powers; and to enable this Village and its
members to undertake enterprises designed to secure for the members of the
corporation an assured economic independence…”; and
WHEREAS, the Organized Village of Kasaan is governed by a Council of
elected representatives composed of a President and six members who act in
accordance with the powers granted to it by its Constitution and By-Laws
(Ratified on October 15, 1938); and
WHEREAS, the welfare of the children and adults in our community is of
paramount importance to the Tribe; and
WHEREAS, the cost of electricity in Kasaan is high, and the use of a
diesel generator for the community’s power needs is becoming increasing more
expensive; and
WHEREAS, the Organized Village of Kasaan is interested in pursuing the
development of alternative energy resources as a sustainable and affordable
way to provide heat and/or energy to public and residential buildings in
Kasaan;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Organized Village of Kasaan Council
authorizes the submission of a Renewable Energy Fund Grant Application for
project funding to the Alaska Energy Authority; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that although the Organized Village of Kasaan
Council has not identified a specific dollar amount for a in-kind match for
this grant, the Tribe is committed to providing the staff and organizational
support that will be necessary to successfully implement all aspects of this
grant, once funding is received; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Organized Village of Kasaan Council
authorizes Richard J. Peterson and Jonathan J. Wunrow as the point persons
to represent the Tribe for the purposes of this grant application; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Organized Village of Kasaan is in full
compliance with all federal, state, and local laws including existing credit
and federal tax obligations.
