This project will inform developers of energy projects, developers of hydrokinetic energy generation devices, consultants, communities, and the State of Alaska in general of the potential for in stream renewable energy in rural Alaska. We work to find ways to engage rural high school students and get them excited about careers in engineering and science. This project will provide us with opportunities for those students to participate in device deployment and data acquisition and reduction in their local communities. This is the best kind of project we could hope for since there is the potential for a direct positive impact for the community. Students will be able to see the tangible benefits of the work they are doing. Please call me at (907) 529-4918 or e-mail me at herb@uaa.alaska.edu if you should need any additional information. Very Truly Yours, Herb (Ilisaurri) Schroeder, PhD Associate Dean and Professor of Engineering ANSEP Executive Director Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP) Recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring
