RESOLUTION M26
Supporting Resolution
For the
Yukon River Inter Tribal Watershed Council
Application to Alaska Energy Authority
To
Enhance and Expand Existing
Hydrokinetic Project at Ruby, Alaska
Whereas, The Ruby Tribe is federally recognized; and
Whereas, The Ruby Tribe has a constitutional government that is representative of
the membership; and
Whereas, The Ruby Tnbal Council, City of Ruby, Dmeega Corporation, and Merreline A.
Kaugas School have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding that provides a
vehicle for identifying and seeking solutions to specific and common challenges; and
Whereas, The Ruby citizens have identified the developing renewable energy as a community
goal; and
Whereas, Energy costs have significantly increased to the point where the economic stability of
our community is challenged; and
Whereas, the Ruby Tribal Council believes renewable energy will provide some relief and
potential solutions to our local and broader energy crisis; and
Whereas, in partnership with the Yukon River Inter Tribal Watershed Council and the Ruby
City Council and electric utility, we have installed the first hydrokinetic turbine to
produce electricity in the United States; and
Now Therefore Be It Resolved, the Ruby Tribal Council supports the YRITWC application to
the Alaska Energy Authority Renewable Energy Fund to enhance and expand the
existing hydrokinetic installation; and
Be It Further Resolved, the Ruby Tribal Council will provide information and outreach through
the YRITWC to assist in spreading this technology to other communities.
Certification
Adopted this September 29, 2008 at a Special Meeting of the Ruby Tribal Council at Ruby Alaska by
a quorum vote of 5 for and 0 against.
