Dear Army Corps:
The Yukon River Drainage Fisheries Association (YRDFA) is a non-profit organization,
dedicated to sustaining the commercial and subsistence fisheries, which are the economic
backbone of the Yukon River drainage, and to protecting Yukon River habitat, which is
the ecological backbone of the Yukon River chum, Chinook, and coho salmon
populations. YRDFA’s members are commercial and subsistence fishers in the Yukon
River, and also depend on the Yukon for recreation and transportation.
We are writing to express our support for the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed
Council’s hydrokinetic project at Ruby. Further, we are committed to working with the
Watershed Council to ensure that the project does not cause harm to salmon populations
in the area. We will be involved in monitoring the turbine for fish impacts on-site in
Ruby, and providing suggestions.
