Scope of Work:
The project includes the clearing and site preparation of the acreage purchased in Delta Junction, Alaska
for the purposes of erecting wind turbines for a win farm and producing electricity to be partnered with
Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) and tied into the Rail Belt grid.
The proposed project is to erect approximately 10 wind turbines, which, once completed and
operational, will produce up to 2 mega watts line capacity to be tied into the GVEA grid to provide
added clean power to the existing grid.
Stated project goals:
Site preparation/clearing with constructed access;
Installation and monitoring of a 160 ft. Met Tower;
Data logging;
Installation of power line to tie in with GVEA;
Creation of a new prototype wind turbine;
Fabrication of prototype 53 ft. tall experimental vertical-shaft 60kw turbine;
Purchase of suitable wind turbines for arctic climate wind farm;
Erection of turbines at wind farm;
Tie-in to GVEA grid producing electricity from alternative energy;
Pursuing Alaska Distributorship of NorthWind turbines for Northern Power Systems.
Timeline:
January 15, 2008 Formally began process with GVEA of putting transmission lines in for
up to 2 megawatts tie-in
February 25, 2008 Approximate date for ordering of 4 each 100 kilowatt turbines for
installation in 2008
May 15, 2008 Begin excavation of project site for installation and burial of conduit
lines and installation of newly ordered turbines and towers
May – July, 2008 Three scheduled meetings with the contractor (Northern Power Supply
Proprietary)
December 2008 Order the remaining 3 out of 4 100kv turbines for installation in spring
of 2009
April 30, 2009 Expected completion date for all 4 tower foundations in preparation for
next phase of building and erection of the towers and turbines
September 30, 2009 Expected completion date for having the 400 kilowatt Wind Farm
Commissioned up and producing electricity. This is the first phase of a 2
megawatt sized Wind Farm at this particular site in Delta Junction.
Note: AEP has secured a 60-acre Staging Facility in Fairbanks for the
interim inspection and storage of all turbine related equipment prior to
delivering to on-site facility in Delta Junction.
