Recent surveys has shown that the NANA Region residents are supportive of renewable energy development and are willing to participate in: bringing forthrenewable energy Projects. High energy costs are motivating NANA Region residents to look for new energy sources and identifying ways to harness these energy sources for their communities. NRC is committed to helping the Northwest Arctic Borough develop a comprehensive feasibility study, design and constrnetion program of wind -diesel power generation facilities in Buckland, Deering, and Noorvik. NRC will help develop these projects by providing services of Projects Manager Sonny Adams, Lands Director Abraham Snyder and Assistant Director Jeff Nelson. The wind -diesel project team will be supported by senior management; the President's office and Vice President Waiter Sampson. As the landowner of many potential wind energy generation sites in the NANA Region, NRC will be working with the Northwest Arctic Borough and its consultants on wind - diesel program. NRC will also provide access to its land for wind -diesel project activities and wind turbine sites. NANA Pacific and other consultants will provide expertise in the development of the construction and business plan. NRC also plans on working with some of the NANA Strategic Energy Plan members. These participants include Kotzebue Electric Association, Ipnatchiaq Electric Company, the City of Buckland, Maniilaq Association and village councils in Deering, Buckland, and Noorvik. As an in -kind contribution, NRC will provide land access and gravel for the wind -diesel projects. Gravel provision has yet to be determined due to site locations of the wind turbines. NRC has already committed $150,000 for regional wind energy resource assessment studies and feasibility analysis, including the installation of meteorological towers in Deering, Buckland, and Noorvik. Finally, NANA Pacific and WH Pacific, affiliates of NANA Regional Corporation, will be providing support services to wind -diesel project participants; such as project/construction management, technical and planning services, and procurement.
