RESOLUTION M
A Resolution In support of on Alaska Energy Authority Renewable Energy Grant Application for the Upper Kobuk Wood
Biomass project.
WHEREAS, the City of Shungnak is the local municipal government for the community of Shungnak; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Energy Authority has funding available for Renewable Energy projects; and
WHEREAS, the Northwest Inuplat Regional Housing Authority (NWIHA) has applied for funding for a Reconnaissance,
Resource Assessment/Fessiblllty AnalyslslOonceptual Design projed for a Wood Biomass project for the Upper
Shungnak region; end
WHEREAS, a wood energy project In the Upper Shungnak region will reduce and stabilize heating costs to Shungnak,
Shungnak and Shungnak; and
WHEREAS, a properly constructed wood energy program for a village will save money for commercial customers as well
as creating a consistent supply of firewood for households.
WHEREAS, a wood energy program can also reduce wildfire risk through forest thinning, enhance wildlife habitat
and most Importantly create local jobs and economy through import substitution; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Shungnak fully supports the NWIHA funding request presented In the
Alaska Energy Authority Renewable Energy Grant Application for the Upper Shungnak Wood Biomass project.
CERTIFICATION: This resolution was duly considered and adopted at a meeting of the City of Shungnak In Shungnak,
Alaska on 101t)31QP at which a quorum of board members were in attendance.
