Dear Mr. White,
The Municipality of Skagway would like to voice its support for Ms. Jan Wrentmore's
application for a Renewable Energy Fund Grant for a study of the feasibility of
connecting the existing Burro Creek Hydro project to the power grid supplying Skagway
and Haines.
Ms. Wrentmore has been a business person in good standing in our community for 30
years. The Burro Creek Hydro plant has been in existence since 1983 when it was
constructed by former owner Captain Gene Richards to support his fish hatchery
operation. It is our understanding that with upgrades and expansion, it is conceivable that
this project could generate as much as 2 megawatts of hydro -based power.
Our community is supportive of hydro and welcomes the development of alternative,
non -diesel generated power sources which will provide our residents, visitors and the
large ships which utilize our port with a source of clean and hopefully inexpensive
power.
Sincerely,
Alan Sorum
