RESOLUTION 10-08-40
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORDOVA, ALASKA,
SUPPORTING CORDOVA ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE'S ORCA DIESEL PLANT
EFFICIENCY UPGRADE
WHEREAS, the City of Cordova has experienced dramatic increases in the cost of
electrical energy to municipal and public buildings; and
WHEREAS, the citizens, businesses, state and federal agencies and services are all
negatively impacted by the rapidly rising cost of electrical energy; and
WHEREAS, the increase in cost is solely due to the increased cost of diesel fuel used to
produce 40% of Cordova's electricity; and
WHEREAS, growing on -shore fish processing vital to the growth and sustainability of
Cordova is increasing the electrical demand on existing assets; and,
WHEREAS, Cordova Electric Cooperative has initiated the design and construction of
the Orea Diesel Plant Efficiency Upgrade Project to meet grooving demands and reduce the
overall use of diesel fuel through installation of a fuel -efficient generator and waste heat
recovery; and
WHEREAS, the AEA renewable energy fund is available to assist in the recovery of
waste heat from diesel fuel generated electricity;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Cordova, Alaska, supports the Orca Diesel Plant Efficiency Upgrade.
