Re: Haines Assisted Living Renewable Energy Grant
Sirs:
I write today in support of the Renewable Energy Grant application submitted to the Alaska Energy
Authority by Haines Assisted Living, Inc. (HAL).
For more than seven years, a committed cadre of Haines citizens has worked diligently to develop and
fund the construction of the Haines Assisted Living facility. With the support of Alaska Housing Finance
Corporation, the Denali Commission, the Alaska Department of Commerce and Community Economic
Development, the Rasmuson Foundation and our generous community, the project broke ground this
summer and will be completed in the fall of 2009.
An important element supporting the long-term sustainability of the project is a proposed Ground
Water Heat Pump system to provide a major portion of its energy requirements. Life -cycle energy cost
analysis strongly supports the adoption of this technology in Haines. The system has been developed
and initial design work completed.
I urge you to favorably consider HAL's proposal for grant funds to construct a Ground Water Heat Pump
system. Thank you very much.
