Dear Mr. White,
Thank you for considering the City ofChi girik's application to receive finiding for a
feasibility study of the potential for generating hydropower in the community of Chignik.
As fuel costs continue to rise, seeking alternative sources of energy makes economic
sense to the City of Chignik. The existing hydropower system in Chigrik, on Indian
Creek, has been in existence since the 1940s and has provided limited amounts of
electricity for the fish processing plant. An updated feasibility study is needed to show
whether expansion of this "Chignik Hydro" system :3 in the community's best interests.
The current FERC license (dumber 620) for hydropower on Indian Creek is held by
Trident Fisheries, Trident has agreed to enter into negotiations with the City to use its
FERC license for an expanded, improved system that benefits the entire community, The
proposed feasibility study includes negotiations to outline the cooperative agreement
between the two parties,
The Chignik City Council supports the funding request to conduct a feasibility study of
hydropower on Indian Creek, We are committed to working with Trident Fisheries to
realize the potential benefits of hydropower: cost-effective, sustainable energy for Our
residents, our school, our facilities, and the fish processing plant in our community.
Sincerely,
6;V ar e, ayor
