hydroelectric power generation system, a renewable energy resource, to address the
energy needs of the Native Village of Chignik Lagoon.
WHEREAS. the community of Chignik Lagoon is located in a remote region of rural
Alaska; and
WI IEREAS, the high cost to purchase, transport, and stoic fuel combine to create an
exorbitant kw rate: and
WHEREAS, the dependence upon diesel fuel generation is environmentally damaging
and unreliable in regards to stability to the prices and delivery
consistency; and
WHEREAS, the community of Chignik Lagoon is eager to promote economic
development and provide affordable power for its residents: and
WHEREAS, Dan Hertlich, a civil engineer with Polar Consult Alaska, has reviewed
and updated a prior feasibility study that projects a 200 kw hydroelectric
power generation system would be a very viable cost effective alternative
source of energy for the village of Chignik Lagoon, Alaska.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Chignik Lagoon Power Utility supports all efforts to achieve affordable
renewable hydroelectric power for the community of Chignik Lagoon, Alaska.
BE I I FURTHER RESOLVED:
that leff\400rc will be the primary contact person delegated by the Chignik Lagoon
Power Board to pursue in his efforts the necessary funding to design, and build a 200 kw
hydroelectric power systern on Packers Creek to supply the electric energy needs of
Chignik Lagoon with a renewable cost effective alternative energy source.
