RE: Providing Biomass Fuel from Ahtna Land
Dear Elaine,
Following my discussion with Pete Peschang regarding your proposed biomass project,
this is to verify Ahtna's intent to provide a sustainable cordwood resource to Cheesh'na
that will reduce your dependency on the high cost of heating oil.
Although we are in the process of updating our timber inventory data for the area
adjacent to Chistochina, I am confident that Ahtna could provide access to a minimum of
200-cords of stumpage annually to meet the requirements of the Village. Ahtna is aware
that several of our villages are in the planning stages of developing similar biomass
projects and we are currently considering providing set aside areas for harvesting
firewood, fuel reduction areas or would be open to any recommendations you may have
to facilitate the bio-mass fuel program.
We look forward to working with you and other villages in our region on renewable
energy projects. Please feel free to contact me with any other needs and to keep us
informed of your progress.
ncerely,
