RESOLUTION OS-01
A Resolution to provide Gulkana Village with wood burning boilers,
WHEREAS, Gulkana Village is a sovereign Tribe recognized by the o
f Alaska and by the Bureau of Indian
Affairs of the U. S. Department of the Interior; and
WHEREAS, the Gulkana Village Council (GVC) is the governing body of the Tribe; and
WHEREAS, the GVC has been authorized and directed by the Tribal members to exercise the Tribe's inherent
right to self-determination; and
WHEREAS, the Gulkana Village has witnessed and is concerned that fuel oil prices have soared over the past year;
and

WHEREAS, rising fuel oil prices -have impacted. the e

i- sfinances,.and reduced. resources available for
other essential needs and services; and
WHEREAS, these impacts to the Tribe's resources have forced the GVC to research alternate sources of energy in
an effort to reduce energy costs before a financial crisis is reached; and
WHEREAS, the Council has identified as a viable option the replacing of heat produced from fuel oil with heat
generated from bio-fuels, primarily wood; and
WHEREAS,, the Alaska Energy Authority has funding available to implement alternate energy programs and
installations; and
WHEREAS, the GVC is in good standing with respect to its existing credit and federal tax obligations;
Now THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that GVC hereby supports,, authorizes, and directs the Tribal. Administrator
to seek and obtain appropriate funding for the protection of the village from 'high oil, prices, break the reliance on
fossil fuels around the village, the commun
largerity of the Copper- River Valley,, the State of Alaska and provide
awareness on renewable resources"* and

fueled hot water boilers for the heating of Gulkana Village facilities; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that LaMonica Claw and 1Zick Young are hereby designated as the contact person to
represent the GVC for the purposes of this action.
Passed this day of January 2008, at a meeting of the Gulkana Village Council,
L4 members pre -sent, in favor, Gop-posed, and abstained.
