NO.: DRAWING NO.: DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST: The motor of DP-1 is not capable of operating with the wye-delta soft start feature specified in SS 16900 2..03 1411. A wye-delta motor is required to achieve the performance desired. ATTACHMENT::. This motor does not have to be explosion proof as specified, a non -explosion proof TEFC motor similar to attached motor in stock in Anchorage quoted by Hayden Electric Motors will be acceptable. Note this quote is for a US Motor 250T frame motor as a direct replacement for the 254T frame motor currently installed on the pump. It is the Contractors responsibility to coordinate new motor application with pump manufacturer. Submittal for DP-1 did not contain sufficient detail for determining if motor was suitable for application of the Wye -Delta motor starter. Submittal only indicted that a 208v/3ph 254T frame motor would be provided. Submittal approval stipulated it is the "Contractors responsibility for coordination with all other trades and the satisfactory performance of work". Spec Section 01300 ¶ 1.05 J. requires the Contractor to review and coordinate each submittal with other submittals, requirements of the work, and the Contract Documents. Spec Section 00700 ¶ 3.4.1, 6.12, 6.13.2 and 6.21.2 has similar wording for the Intent of the Contract Documents and Contractors Responsibilities. We are asking the Contractor to fully investigate the implementations of this recent discovery, in light of above information, and then the AUTHORITY can enter into negotiation with the Contractor for any allowable Change. This motor in not explosion proof but it will operate at 208 VAC with a wye-delta starter. I was unable to locate a 12 lead explosion proof motor. Let me know if this will work for your application. Per NEMA MG1 1998-1.76, "A Wye Start, Delta Run motor is one arranged for starting by connecting to the supply with the primary winding initially connected in wye, then reconnected in delta for running condition." This is accomplished by a special Wye -Delta starter configuration using six leads from the motor and is intended to limit the inrush current required to start the motor. Motors designed by US Motors for Wye start, Delta Run may also be used for across the line starting using only the Delta connection. Damage will occur if the motor is operated with load for more than 30 seconds on the Wye without transition to Delta. To reverse direction of rotation, interchange leads L1 & L2. Each lead may have one or more cables comprising that lead. In such case, each cable will be marked with the appropriate lead number. Positive displacement pump for petroleum service_ Base mounted with gear reducer, couplings, coupling guards, and motor factory mounted to base plate. Pump assembly shall be factory tested. B. 3-inch flanged inlet and 3-inch flanged outlet, ductile iron case, steel fitted, with cartridge type mechanical seal. Mechanical seal shall be of stainless steel construction, or of other corrosion resistant material, grafoil fitted, with silicon carbide 1 silicon carbide faces. Other seal designs will be considered provided they are suitable for operation down to -40 degrees F. C. Pump shall produce 115 gpm @ 420 rpm. Pump shall require no more than 5 feet of net positive suction head when operating at the specified design point. Set internal relief valve at 100 psi. Relief valve shall be factory set and tested. The working fluid for the Distribution Pump is #2 Diesel with a viscosity of 3.5 to 75 centistokes depending on fluid temperature. D. Pump casing shall be rated for 200 psi. E. Provide 1750 rpm 15 hp explosion proof 208v13phl60hz motor. Pump and motor shall have clockwise rotation, or the proper direction of rotation in the case of an alternate manufacturer that will result in the suction and discharge port configuration as shown on the Drawings.
