Your letter of March 31, 1965 inquired about our inventory of potential
hydroelectric sites. We now have a list of 70 sites which we believe to
be the most favorable from a cost standpoint .
These 70 sites were selected on a cost basis from a list of about 1,000
which \-lere compiled from all available sources.
The list is necessarily preliminary in nature as the data from which
estimates were prepared o:msisted large ly of (1) USGS quadrangle map s ,
and (2) USGS streamfia.-l records (In many cases transposed a long distance).
The geology is particularly weak, as very few of the listed sites have
even been visited by a geologist , so our estimates are based mostly on
guesswork as far as geology is concerned.
We plan to visit as many sites as possible this summer with a geo logist
from our Olief Engineer's Office. The geologist 's reports may quite
well eliminate a number of the sites from further consideration. We
also plan, in caning years, to improve our topographic and runoff data
to the extent that our funds will pennit.
For your:' advance inforrration we are sending you:
1. A table listing the 70 sites, along with other pertinent inforrration.
AlAS KA RESOJ "ES
U.s.. Department
2. A m.lp of Al<1ukt\ with tho oi lea IMrkcd 1n red .
3. 70 individual cutout maps shCMing locations of main features.
TI1ese are to a scale of one inch equals one mile unless other-
wise noted.
In addition to the 70 sites , two rror'e have been authorl.zed--naJrely
Crater-long Lakes Division of Snettisham and Bmelley Lake. We have
not included data on these two because they have already been pub-
lished.
Please bear in mind the very preliminary nature of the material we
are sending you.
Sincerely yours,
Ehclosures
