Subject:Hoonah Power Plant Site -Water Plant Building Removal
Dear Mr.Lockard:
This letter is provided in reference to the AEA funded power plant project in Hoonah and
the need to remove the abandoned City Water Plant Building to provide sufficient space
for the new power plant.
On August 7,1976,the City of Hoonah leased property to the Tlingit-Haida Regional
Electrical Authority (THREA)for the purpose of production and distribution of electrical
power to the residents of the City of Hoonah. The right and obligations under the lease
were assigned to the Inside Passage Electrical Cooperative,Inc.(IPEC)in 2005 by
mutual consent and agreement of the parties._
Under Section 12(a)(1)of the lease,IPEC,as Lessee, has the right "to demolish, remove,
or otherwise dispose of any buildings, structures, improvements, fixtures, and equipment
presently or subsequently situated upon the demised premises.”
The abandoned City Water Plant Building is located on the site leased to IPEC for
production and distribution of electrical power. The removal of the building is necessary
to provide sufficient space for the new power plant facility. The City of Hoonah has
provided authorization to IPEC to demolish and remove the abandoned water plant
building from the site.(See attached letter.)
Accordingly,IPEC requests and authorizes the Alaska Energy Authority to demolish and
remove the existing City Water Plant Building from the existing power plant leasehold
site to provide sufficient space for the new power plant facility.
Sincere]
