Because the size of the home can vary with by residence type, the average SF per home was calculated as a weighted average so that it correctly represented the proportion of housing stock that existed for each residence type within each CZ. ‐ Total SF Non‐Res was calculated as a weighted average, relying on the same methodology as was done for the EUS, rolled up for all building types. Then for columns D through G ‐ Electricity (MMBTU) per year represents all the electricity use that was measured with the survey. It does not include electric space heating. Electric space heating and Electric DHW heating (calculated from ARIS) was considered as a heating fuel, and is combined with all other heating fuels (also calculated from ARIS). You may want to consider revising this name to Electric Appliances or Electric Applications, since it does not include electricity used for space heating or DHW. ‐ (MMBTU) per person/yr for both residential and non‐residential divides total electricity use by the total residential units and then by the total persons per residential unit. Total persons per residential unit for each of the climate zones was estimated using the AK census data (specifically the American Community Survey 2008‐2010 3‐yr average, and 2006‐2010 5‐yr average if the 3‐yr average was not available). A sample of representative boroughs/municipalities for each CZ was used to calculate a weighted average persons per household (assumed to be equivalent to residential unit) for each of the climate zones. The sample boroughs/municipalities represented a majority (usually 70‐90%) of the total CZ population, and therefore were assumed to be a fairly accurate measure. ‐ Per square foot/yr was calculated by dividing total MMBTU by total square foot. ‐Water and sewer data only available in MMBtu. Unit of analysis for water and sewer systems is occupied homes and not population; and lineal feet of pipe and not sq feet. The analysis was unable to drive down to this level of detail. Therefore, only total MMBtu’s is presented. See water and sewer estimated energy use results in the appendices. The table with values by kWh and gal of diesel e. is only converting the MMBTU table into those respective energy units.
